The aortic and vascular outpatient clinic is aimed at patients with aortic and vascular diseases and offers the possibility of consultation, diagnostics, therapy and aftercare for the entire spectrum of aortic diseases.
Every year, 1500 patients are treated in the aortic clinic. The clinic is known nationwide, offers high-quality and innovative services and is used by both general practitioners and vascular surgery clinics. It is an important pillar of the university's outpatient health care.
In the university outpatient clinic for aortic diseases, the indication for surgery and therapy concepts are determined and patients are given postoperative care after the diagnostic process has been completed. The university outpatient clinic for aortic diseases is run continuously by a surgical specialist on three weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The focus of the interdisciplinary Structural Heart Interventions Program (SHIP) at the DHZC is on catheter-based interventions for patients with heart valve defects. With more than 1,500 catheter-based heart valve interventions per year (including more than 1,300 TAVI procedures), the DHZC is one of the largest valve centres in the world.
The SHIP unit includes the W3 normal ward and the W2i intermediate care (IMC) ward at Mittelallee 2, Campus Virchow-Klinikum. The procedures themselves take place in the three hybrid operating theatres of the DHZC at Campus Virchow-Klinikum.
Under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Henryk Dreger (Director of the DHZC Clinic for Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Campus Virchow-Klinikum) and PD Dr. med. Axel Unbeh aun (Senior physician in cardiac surgery at the DHZC Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery), a permanent team from various specialist areas looks after the patients – from admission to discharge and aftercare.
Further information and contact details:
At the VAD outpatient clinic, we focus on three main areas: firstly, the aftercare of patients with a ventricular assist device (VAD), and secondly, the aftercare and monitoring of patients in whom the VAD has been removed (explanted). In addition, the evaluation of, information for, and preliminary examinations of patients who may need a VAD implant.
Note:
Please plan your stay at the DHZC as part of an outpatient visit for several hours (bring spare batteries for the VAD, enough to drink, and something to eat if necessary), as the examination capacities and examination rooms are limited and the doctor's consultation can only take place in parallel in exceptional cases.
