Outpatient clinic and consultation hours

First point of contact for patients

The diagnosis of a congenital heart defect often brings with it many questions and worries for patients and their relatives.

We want to guarantee them the best possible medical care and respond to their personal concerns individually - for life, if necessary. A particular focus of our clinic is therefore on the care of adolescents and adults with congenital heart defects. In addition to the heart defect itself, there are always many questions about school, sport, career choices or the desire to have children.

Our outpatient clinic is the first point of contact for our patients and their families. You will be welcomed and cared for by an experienced and caring team. Our treatment rooms are equipped with modern diagnostic methods. We also offer numerous specialised consultations here, which are explained below.

Our special consultation hours

Paediatric cardiology consultation

Paediatric cardiology consultation for all congenital and acquired heart diseases for infants, children and adolescents.

For patients with Fontan circulation

Our clinic has a comprehensive, closely meshed and standardised programme specifically for the care of all patients who have undergone surgery according to the Fontan principle. Here you will find detailed information about the Fontan circuit and our treatment and aftercare programme. We have special treatment concepts, particularly for typical long-term complications such as cyanosis, protein-losing enteropathy or arrhythmia. Of course, we are also available to all Fontan patients who would like to consult us for the first time.

Special consultations for Fontan patients are possible by appointment during the consultation hours of our outpatient clinic.

For patients with cardiac arrhythmia, pacemakers or other implantable devices

One of the main areas of focus at our clinic is the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. The range of treatments extends from prenatal therapy, to tachycardic and bradycardic cardiac arrhythmias in newborns, children and adolescents, to complex arrhythmias in adults with congenital heart defects. Cardiac arrhythmias are treated with medication, ablation or implantable devices. Another focus is on the investigation of genetically determined rhythmological diseases (such as long QT syndrome or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and the consultative rhythmological care of patients referred to the pediatric cardiology department.

We offer individualized therapeutic approaches and the most modern treatment methods. Our goal is to provide our patients with lifelong, complication-free care.

Special consultations for pacemaker patients are possible by appointment during our outpatient clinic hours.

Therapy for cardiac arrhythmias with pacemakers

One of the main areas of focus at our clinic is the therapy of cardiac arrhythmias with pacemakers and implantable defibrillators in children and in cases of congenital heart defects. We offer individualized therapeutic approaches and the most modern treatment methods. Our goal is to provide our patients with a lifetime of complication-free care.

Special consultations for arrhythmia, ICD and pacemaker patients are possible by appointment during our outpatient clinic hours.

For patients with severe heart failure

Put simply, we speak of heart failure when the heart muscle is no longer able to pump enough blood into the body's circulation. There are numerous causes and degrees of severity. The experienced physicians at our clinic have access to all methods of diagnosing and treating severe heart failure. Our clinic is a world leader in the field of heart support using mechanical circulatory pumps.

Special consultations for patients with severe heart failure are possible by appointment during our outpatient clinic hours.

For patients with pulmonary hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension is an increase in pressure in the arteries from the heart to the lungs. The right ventricle has to pump blood against this increased pressure. This can result in damage to the right ventricle and a backlog of blood in front of the heart. There are many different causes and degrees of severity. At our clinic, specialised doctors have all diagnostic and therapeutic options at their disposal.

Specialised consultations for patients with severe heart failure are available by appointment during the consultation hours of our outpatient clinic.

For children with heart transplants

Children with a donor heart require careful and close medical care from appropriately qualified specialists, especially in the first few years after the transplant. The team at our clinic has decades of experience in the field of heart transplantation.

Special consultations for children with heart transplants are available by appointment during the consultation hours of our outpatient clinic.

Consultation hours for cardiogenetics and cardiomyopathies

Cardiogenetics deals with the molecular genetic diagnosis of heart muscle diseases (e.g. hypertrophic and dilated cardiomyopathy), inherited forms of cardiac arrhythmia (e.g. QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome) and unexplained cases of sudden cardiac death (including counselling of relatives). The DGK/DGPK consensus paper contains detailed recommendations for genotyping the respective cardiovascular diseases.

Children and adolescents up to the age of 18 who already have or are suspected of having one of these diseases and who may be eligible for molecular genetic testing can present to our cardiogenetics and cardiomyopathy consultation.

We also look after children and adolescents of adult patients with one of the above-mentioned diseases who may be eligible for molecular genetic testing (e.g. cascade screening).

The highly specialised clinical assessment and treatment of cardiomyopathies in newborns, children and adolescents has been established in our outpatient clinic for many years.

These diseases are diagnosed and treated in the consultation:

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy
  • Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy
  • Non-dilated left ventricular cardiomyopathy
  • Restrictive cardiomyopathy

We offer individualised therapeutic approaches and state-of-the-art treatment procedures. An appointment in our specialised consultation is possible by appointment during the consultation hours of our outpatient clinic.
