Here you will find an overview of the further training authorisations and powers as well as additional qualifications of our specialist doctors.

Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
  • Prof. Dr. med. Volkmar Falk: Specialist training in heart surgery (72 months)
  • Dr. med. Semih Buz: Specialisation in vascular surgery (48 months)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Felix Schönrath: Specialisation in internal medicine and cardiology (18 months)
  • Dr. med. Karsten Weller: Additional training in intensive care medicine (18 months, 24 months applied for)
  • Denis Fries: specialisation in internal medicine(6 months intensive care, 6 months internal medicine as part of the specialist training in internal medicine – applied for)
  • Important information:

  • A doctor in specialist training can have a maximum of 30 months of specialist training in internal medicine at the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery credited to their specialist training.
  • A doctor can complete a maximum of 18 months of further training in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery for the additional training in intensive care medicine.
  • The periods of additional training in intensive care medicine can be acquired before the respective specialist title is obtained.

  • Prof. Dr. med. Ulf Landmesser: Specialist training in internal medicine and cardiology (60 months)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Carsten Skurk: Additional training in intensive care (inpatient, 24 months)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Boris Bigalke: Additional training in magnetic resonance imaging – specialised (inpatient, 12 months)
  • Dr. med. Wulf Knie: Additional training in emergency medicine (12 months)
Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine | Virchow Clinic Campus
  • Prof. Dr. med. Henryk Dreger: Specialist training in internal medicine and cardiology (inpatient, 60 months according to WbO 2004 or 36 months according to WbO 2021)
  • Dr. med. Thomas Schlabs: Additional training in intensive care (inpatient, 24 months – applied for)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Frank Edelmann: Further specialist training in internal medicine and cardiology (outpatient, 12 months)
  • Prof.Dr. med. Sebastian Kelle: Additional training in magnetic resonance imaging – specialised (inpatient, 12 months)

Important information:

  • Due to the highly complex patient population, the Department of Cardiac Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine primarily offers positions for specialists.
  • In the case of special suitability, applications can be considered in the last year of specialist training.
  • We kindly request that applications from doctors in the first four years of specialist training be refrained from. Thank you for your understanding.
Department of Congenital Heart Desease – Pediatric Cardiology
  • Prof. Dr. med. Felix Berger: Specialist in Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine (24 months),
    36 months specialising in Paediatric and Adolescent Cardiology (36 months)
  • Dr. med. Friederike Danne: Additional training in Intensive Care Medicine (24 months)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Felix Berger: Additional training in Special Cardiology for Adults with Congenital Heart Defects (expected to be 18 months)
  • Prof. Dr. med. Tutarel: Additional training in specialised cardiology for adults with congenital heart defects (expected to take 18 months)
  • Important information:

  • At our clinic, we offer the opportunity to receive further training for the additional qualification in specialised cardiology for adults with congenital heart defects.
