New employees receive a thorough induction programme - lasting at least eight weeks.

This is what we do in our intensive care units:

  • Postoperative care: We care for patients immediately after highly complex cardiological and cardiosurgical procedures. Monitoring and supporting vital functions during this critical phase is crucial to the success of the treatment.
  • Heart and lung transplants: Our teams specialise in the care of patients before and after heart and lung transplants. This intensive care requires close collaboration with the transplant surgeons and other specialist departments.Circulatory support systems: We regularly work with state-of-the-art circulatory support systems such as ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and VAD (ventricular assist devices) to stabilise and support patients with severe heart failure.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Our nursing staff work closely with doctors, physiotherapists, nutritionists and other specialists

The familiarisation period on our intensive care units is at least eight weeks. During this time, you will be accompanied by an experienced colleague and will not work alone at the patient's bedside. This intensive supervision ensures that you acquire all the necessary skills and knowledge to fulfil the high standards of patient care at the DHZC.

Welcome to intensive care at the DHZC - we look forward to getting to know you and shaping the future of intensive care medicine together with you!

Practical application in the intensive care unit WD2i

Antonia completed her training as a healthcare and nursing assistant at our nursing school in October 2017 and has been working at WD2i ever since. Barbara was a third-year trainee at the time of the video shoot and was completing a six-week practical placement at the WD2i.

Valentine on working in the intensive care unit

Immediately after completing her training, intensive care nurse Valentine started working in one of our intensive care units. In the video, she explains why she has never regretted taking this step: "The pressure is high, but you learn a lot through the routine. And you have great people around you here. So you grow day by day. And with that comes security."
