Clinical training:

  • Medical school in Bochum, Göttingen and Essen.
  • Specialist in internal medicine and cardiology, working as an interventional cardiologist since 1998.

Clinical and scientific focus:

  • Clinical and experimental therapy research in cardiomyopathies and heart failure, genetics and molecular biological diagnostics of cardiovascular diseases, immunopathogenesis and immunomodulatory therapy of myocardial diseases.

  • Institute for Virology, University of Würzburg.
  • Professorship in Internal Medicine, Free University of Berlin (1998).
  • ‘Best Paper Award’ of the journal Circulation 2010 (first description of RNA interference therapy for severe heart failure)
