Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery

Welcome to the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité. We are a maximum care university centre and treat all diseases of the heart and cardiovascular system in patients of all ages, around the clock, every day.

With over 3,500 heart operations per year, we are one of the largest specialised cardiac surgery clinics in Germany.

Our clinic is one of the world's largest centres for the use of mechanical circulatory assistance systems ("artificial hearts") and is one of the leading national centres for the treatment of valvular heart disease and for heart and lung transplants. Thanks to our interdisciplinary collaboration with the clinics of the DHZC and Charité, we offer our patients the best possible individualised treatment.

Welcome to our website! As the director of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the DHZC, I am part of an interdisciplinary team that works together for the benefit of our patients. With our extensive experience, state-of-the-art technology and intensive research, we strive to improve the care we offer you every day. And we must never forget how important human care will always be for the success of the treatment.
