Cardioanaesthesia
Focus of our work
The cardioanaesthesia department treats patients from the entire spectrum of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery as well as interventional cardiology in nine operating theatres - three of which are hybrid operating theatres. We would like to introduce you to this and our other specialisations here.
Adult cardioanaesthesia and Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
The adult cardio-anaesthesia department cares for patients in nine operating theatres - including three hybrid operating theatres - for the entire spectrum of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery as well as interventional cardiology.
The range of services includes
- General anaesthesia including total intravenous (TIVA) and balanced procedures
- Regional anaesthesiological procedures such as ultrasound-guided nerve blocks
- Procedural sedation and analgesia (PSA)
- Stand-by monitoring for high-risk interventions (MAC)
- Extended haemodynamic monitoring
- Pacemaker management
- EEG-based anaesthesia depth monitoring
- Intraoperative transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE)
- POCT coagulation diagnostics (PTT, ACT, HMS Plus, ROTEM®, ClotPro®, Multiplate®)
- Lung isolation techniques
- Bronchoscopy
- NO inhalation
- Mechanical circulatory support and extracorporeal organ support procedures (ECLS/ECMO, Impella®, IABP)
- Intraoperative neuromonitoring (NIRS, evoked potentials, cerebrospinal fluid pressure measurement/drainage)
- Heat management
Patients at the DHZC are treated periinterventionally in the Peri Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU) on six intensive care units. A particular focus is the implementation of fast-track and ERACS protocols with the aim of reducing post-operative ventilation time after cardiac surgery. In addition, TEE examinations, central venous instrumentation, regional anaesthesiological blocks and electrical cardioversions are performed on patients in the DHZC's downstream wards.
