Prevention

In view of demographic change in industrialised countries such as Germany, the frequency of patients with cardiovascular diseases is steadily increasing.

It is estimated that up to four million people suffer from heart failure alone. As a result, preventive measures are coming to the fore alongside highly specialised therapeutic approaches.

Prevention makes it possible to effectively influence the development and progression of many cardiovascular diseases, which can both significantly improve the quality of life of those affected and significantly reduce the burden on the healthcare system.

Our focus: cardiovascular prevention

As one of the leading centres for cardiovascular prevention in Germany, the Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Benjamin Franklin Campus offers comprehensive prevention programmes.

Specialised consultation for lipometabolic disorders

Particular attention is paid to the clinic's special consultation hours. For example, there is a special consultation for lipometabolic disorders, which is important both for patients with already diagnosed lipometabolic disorders and for people for whom early detection and treatment can be crucial. In particular, people with existing cardiovascular diseases or a family history should seek advice on their individual risk.

Specialist consultation for high blood pressure

High blood pressure is a significant risk factor for the development of most cardiovascular diseases. Both for patients with known high blood pressure and for those with an increased cardiovascular risk, the diagnosis and treatment of this disease is crucial. Lifestyle counselling or the use of medication can prevent secondary diseases. In the case of resistant forms of high blood pressure, you can also obtain advice on modern treatment methods such as the sclerotherapy of nerve fibres in the vascular wall of the renal arteries (renal denervation).

Specialised outpatient clinic for cardiovascular genetics

The clinic also offers a specialised outpatient clinic for cardiovascular genetics. Patients with a high hereditary risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks, cardiomyopathies and other genetic heart problems are treated here. Family members of those affected can also receive comprehensive genetic counselling here in order to better assess their personal risk.

The Friede Springer Cardiovascular Prevention Centre

The Friede Springer Cardiovascular Prevention Centre is currently being set up on campus under the medical direction of Clinic Director Prof. Ulf Landmesser. With a team of medical and scientific specialists, we are pursuing new approaches in the prevention research of cardiovascular diseases.

Prevention research at the CBF

Researching cardiovascular diseases, recognising individual risks at an early stage and reacting to them preventively - that is the aim of the Friede Springer - Cardiovascular Prevention Centre.
