Work shadowing at the DHZC
Gaining practical experience in our clinics
For medical specialists, we offer internships in our clinics where you can get to know the work processes and gain practical experience. You can find the possible duration of an internship and current vacancies in our Departments further down on this page. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Since a job shadowing is not a medical employee activity, no professional licence, licence to practice medicine or work permit is required. International applicants require a visa or a residence permit. A job shadowing at the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité lasts up to three months and is unpaid.
We offer 2 work shadowing places in the Clinic for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery. You can spend a maximum of two months on rotation on the wards and in the operating theatre.

The Clinic for Cardioanaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine offers an internship for a maximum of two weeks per month to anaesthetists (ideally with experience in cardioanaesthesia). Please include the necessary documents and the following overview of available periods in your enquiry:

As a perfusionist, you can spend the first two weeks of each month in the operating theatre. We offer one place in each time block. A work shadowing placement in the perfusion department lasts a maximum of two weeks.

- Letter of application (German or English) with the note 'Hospitant'
- Curriculum vitae (German or English)
- Proof of language skills in English and German with at least level B2

- Letter of reference from your clinic or university
- Proof of health insurance coverage for the internship period
- Licence to practice medicine or professional licence if available, but not required
- Proof of financing
Information for international applicants
If we select you for a job shadowing, you will receive a letter of invitation. With this written invitation, you can now apply for the necessary residence permit or visa for a stay in the Federal Republic of Germany at the consulate of the German Embassy in your country. Nationals of EU member states and EEA states do not require a visa or a certificate of freedom of movement.
