DEGUM courses in echocardiography

Echocardiography is not only an indispensable basic diagnostic tool in clinical routine, but is also essential in the planning and implementation of therapy, particularly in the area of structural heart disease.

DEGUM (the German Society for Ultrasound in Medicine) has defined clear guidelines for the implementation and certification of echocardiography courses. The courses offered by the Echokardiographie-Akademie meet these guidelines and are certified by DEGUM. This means that they meet the highest standards in terms of training and qualifications.

This page summarises the various courses on offer.

DEGUM basic course in echo-doppler

The four-day DEGUM basic course in echo-doppler deals with the physical principles, device settings and standard sectional planes. It also covers the measurement of systolic function and the assessment of heart valve diseases.

The 4-day programme begins on Thursdays and ends on Sundays. The course takes place in Berlin-Wedding.

DEGUM advanced Doppler echo course

The four-day advanced course builds on the knowledge acquired in the basic course. The focus is on the precise quantification of valvular heart disease and myocardial function. Furthermore, special topics such as pericardial diseases, endocarditis, heart valve prostheses and the assessment of the right heart are covered.

The 4-day programme begins on Thursday and ends on Sunday. The course takes place in Berlin-Wedding.

DEGUM Module 1 & 2 of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE)

The most important indications and findings of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) are discussed in modules I and II. In simulator training, participants can ‘try their hand’ at the procedure and discuss their questions with the experts. The modules correspond to the new DEGUM guidelines and enable participants to acquire the DEGUM certificates.

The two-day programme begins on a Saturday and ends on Sunday. The training takes place in person at the DHZB Academy.

DEGUM module Echocardiography – Complex Vitien

In this advanced module, complex situations in the assessment of acquired vitreous humour are discussed. In addition, participants are sensitised to how they can recognise previously undiagnosed congenital vitreous humour in adult patients. The course instructors present approaches to solving complex diagnoses and explain how common mistakes can be avoided. A completed DEGUM advanced course is a prerequisite for participation.

The two-day training course takes place in person at the DHZB Academy.

DEGUM module Speckle Tracking & CEUS

Deformation analysis using speckle tracking is an important tool in the analysis of myocardial function. The course provides insights into the technique and its various applications in clinical practice, and also includes practical exercises. It also addresses the indications for which contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) makes a difference to the correct diagnosis.

The two-day training course takes place in person at the DHZB Academy.
