DHZB Foundation
The DHZB Foundation is committed to improving cardiovascular health in Berlin and beyond by providing excellent patient care, state-of-the-art education and technological innovation.
Healthcare
Together with Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the DHZB Foundation manages the Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité. The Foundation participates in the strategic development of the DHZC through active involvement in the DHZC Board of Directors, which is made up of equal numbers of members. It provides funding to support strategic initiatives and the long-term development of the DHZC. In addition, the Foundation supports staff recruitment and development at the DHZC through its training centre and the promotion of scientific working groups and projects.
Training and further education
The DHZB Academy pursues two main objectives. Firstly, it works closely with the DHZC to attract and develop medical professionals in order to promote high quality care. Secondly, the Academy provides a platform to share the expertise of DHZC experts beyond Berlin and Germany and to contribute to the international exchange of knowledge in the field of cardiology.
More than 1,000 medical professionals take part in training and courses at the DHZB Academy every year. The academy operates a simulation centre for cardiological interventions and a skills lab for intensive care and nursing - providing an excellent environment for interprofessional team-based training.
Excellent training and continuous professional development of medical staff are crucial for high-quality care. For this reason, the DHZB Foundation has established the DHZB Academy, an interprofessional training centre for medical professionals with a special focus on cardiology and nursing.

Promoting science and innovation
Berlin is an international centre for science in cardiovascular medicine. With a large number of research groups focussing on cardiovascular diseases, numerous interdisciplinary research institutes and its extensive clinical infrastructure, Berlin is home to a thriving community of researchers in this field. Approximately 500 annual peer-reviewed publications from the DHZC illustrate the dynamic scientific environment in the German capital.
The DHZB Foundation aims to promote and expand Berlin's role and influence in cardiovascular science worldwide. The foundation currently invests more than one million euros per year in the fields of cardiac surgery, anaesthesiology, paediatric cardiology, cardiovascular imaging, artificial intelligence and digital medicine and many more. The foundation places particular emphasis on bringing innovation into the clinic by supporting spin-offs and start-ups with promising product developments.
